My Heathier Lifestyle by Jenn B
How many times have you decided that you were going to lose weight?
How many times have you said to yourself, "This time I’m serious."
Now, how far did you get before you gave up?
Don’t worry, I’m not here to judge you. I’ve been there on many occasions myself, so I know what it's like. I’ve been there; you try and eat healthier or think you are eating healthier and just end up feeling deprived, feeling hangry and just feeling plain miserable... sound familiar? I know it all too well and I’m sure we can all relate in some way, but what if I told you it doesn’t have to be this way? That losing weight doesn’t have to be hard.
A little background
Some of you have probably seen my face on Nutratalk but for some of you who haven’t, my name Is Jenn Bauder and I’m a Nutracelle veteran lol! I’ve been with Nutracelle pretty much since they first launched back in 2016.
I’m 37 years old, mom of 3, (in all stages of life too I may add) one in college, one in high school and one in public school. It can be quite busy around here. I was asked to write about my journey and of course I was all over it, as I love sharing my story. I hope that it inspires you to just go for it!
My weight-loss journey began back in 2016
It was after new years and I just had my weddings rings cut off due to I couldn’t get them off my chubby hands and it was causing a sore under them and there was no other way to have them removed.
I had gained a lot of weight with my daughter, who I had back in 2014 and the weight just would not come off like my other two pregnancies.
I was told by my doctor if I didn’t change my eating habits I would end up having diabetes, something I never wanted to get after watching my grandmother my whole life give herself insulin twice a day, then my mother having it as well. I also have hip issues, I was born with hip dysplasia in my right hip and had surgery when I was two years old, I’ve suffered my whole life with pain having rheumatoid arthritis, been on different medications, cortisone shots, you name it I tried it, it got so bad I couldn’t even walk around the block without being in so much pain and I love walking.
In 2013 I was placed on the waiting list for a hip replacement. WOW I remember those words like it was yesterday, who wants to have one of those in the first place let alone at the time I was in my early 30’s, Not me that’s for sure. That’s when my journey really began.
Welcome to my healthier lifestyle
I started my journey like everyone else does: by making that dreaded new year’s resolution we all get hyped up about. I started out with what I thought was eating healthier, working out, etc... but in 3 months I had only lost 3 pounds.
What! Only 3lbs?! I thought, "You’ve got to be kidding me." What a big downer. That whole time I was tired, felt fatigued, drained right out, and didn’t feel very well. Plus the worst part? I was hangry and I was just plain miserable.
I remember seeing a friend, who was my son’s teacher at the time post about her weight loss and having a weekly challenge weigh in, I thought, why not it may keep me accountable.
So I joined and that’s when I was introduced to Nutracelle.
At first I hesitated as I couldn’t afford it, my husband was the only one working, but I met up with her anyway to give it a try and guess what? (Spoiler alert!) I loved it. I waited, I think, 3 days thinking to myself, "How in the heck can I get this stuff?!" but I went with my gut instinct and just went for it and signed up, I thought to myself: I’ll figure out how to pay for it later. I am worth this.
March 22, 2016 my journey with Nutracelle began, I felt optimistic.
I felt so excited to hopefully begin to lose the weight and be on the road to a healthier me. I had this feeling this was it, I was going to lose this weight for good and get healthy at the same time. I sat down that night and wrote out my WHY. My why I wanted to lose the weight. I kept that paper close by and read it as may times over and over again so it would be implanted in my head. I had never written out my why before, it was always just me saying to lose the weight so I can fit back into my pre-baby jeans, but this time I wrote my why and what it would feel like if I accomplish it.
I started Day 1 with a Plan
Day 1: My packaged arrived and I got started right away.
I followed exactly what I was told to do: 2 shakes a day with 2 scoops. Cut out all refined sugars and cut back on carbs, start drinking more water and fill up on protein and fiber-enriched foods. I filled out the protein calculator on the website and was in awe that I needed to have 165 grams of protein a day, holy crap! That’s a lot of protein, but I was determined.
I started a food journal and kept track of all the protein I had in a day plus my water intake. I began exploring the protein treats recipes to help with getting in my protein where I needed it. I printed off the low sugar/low carb fruit and veggie list and posted it to my fridge as a reminder to myself that what wasn’t on that list not to eat. I read and watched every webinar Melanie did and followed what she said to T.
I stopped buying store bought baked goods and processed foods. Started making all my baked goods from scratch and replacing starchy carbs with healthier ones. The only thing I didn’t do was exercise, I wanted to see for myself by just changing the way I ate if the weight would come off without exerting myself especially with the condition of my hip.
I set out a goal to lose 35lbs by my 35th birthday which gave me 9 months to do that, pretty reasonable.
I accomplished losing that 35lbs in just 7 months.
The benefits went beyond my scale victories
I couldn’t believe how I was full all the time and wasn’t running to look for snacks. How much more energy I had in just the first couple of weeks. I wasn’t tired anymore, the napping mid day stopped. I had more energy to play with my kids, I didn’t feel fatigue.
I remember when I got a call from the doctors office telling me I was third on the list for getting that hip replacement I previously needed.
I had told them I had lost a bunch of weight and didn’t want it. They had me go in for an x-ray and they couldn’t believe it: the muscles around my hip joint were starting to repair themselves and the inflammation in my bones had gone down significantly from previous x-rays.
They said you don’t need to have one right now and congratulated me on my weight loss and my healthier living lifestyle.
I felt so proud of myself for the first time in my life for sticking to something.
I am currently down a total of 56lbs, I have been maintaining for well over 2 years now and plan on staying on this path for the rest of my life. With being on Nutracelle I did not feel like I was being deprived from the foods I love, I just learned to be smart about it. I make just about everything from cakes to cookies to pies to bread and bagels, sauces whatever you like it can be made and taste just as yummy if not better.
I'm so thankful for my Nutracelle. Not only am I healthier, and my family is healthier, but I used to hate baking and now I love it! My new-found love for baking is partially what has kept me on track. I know some people will say they don’t have the time, but honestly if you want it like I did you will prioritize your time and make it work.
My Nutracelle
I tend to go through phases with my favourite shakes, so this answer could change if you were to ask me again in six months.
My favourite flavor of Nutralean is currently the Chocolate Dream!
My favourite shake this month has been Nutracelle's Funky Monkey shake!
My advice to you
If you are considering trying to lose weight, I want you to think of it as more than just losing weight to look good in that swimsuit, dress or whatever it is. I want you to think of it as a healthier lifestyle for the rest of your life, as that is what it truly is.
Don’t rush it, things take time, reach out for help and get yourself a great group of people who you keep you accountable, join Nutratalk on Facebook it has helped me out so much.
Nutracelle has not only helped me lose the weight but it has given me more confidence in myself and it has given me my quality of life back. What more could I ask for.
Thank you to Melanie and to the whole Nutrafamily.
If I can do this anyone can, just believe in yourself!
