Guar Gum
Guar gum thickens food and is high in soluble fiber and low in calories. Also known as guaran, guar gum is made from legumes called guar beans.
The guar bean is grown in the U.S., Australia, India, and Africa.
Soluble fibers such as guar gum have been shown to have cholesterol-lowering effects, with lower levels of total blood cholesterol, as well as lower LDL cholesterol, compared to a placebo.
- Some studies have found that guar gum could aid weight loss and appetite control. Fiber moves through the body undigested and may help promote satiety (fullness) while reducing appetite.
- A review of three studies concluded that guar gum improved satiety and reduced the number of calories consumed from snacking throughout the day.
