Getting Fit On A Budget: Gillian's Journey

Hey Everyone!

This week I thought I would write about getting fit on a budget. Many of you may be like myself: you have limited financial resources. For me, living on a small fixed-income has been a challenge especially when it comes to eating healthy whole foods.

Getting fit comes with a hefty price tag as well. Gym memberships are costly, and personal trainers are too. I just can’t afford those extra dollars.

I have some personal tips that will help you get fit on a budget, though!
- I’ve recently started walking again. It can be a great aerobic workout if you get your arms swinging and keep a steady pace. Walking for me is great because of my issues with arthritis. It's a low-risk exercise and all I have to do is lace up my sneakers and head out the door. I can do it any time of day and do it at my own pace. It's great to get outside, get some fresh air and soak up some Vitamin D! I always feel happy knowing I’m giving my heart and lungs a workout as well as my body. Plus, it's FREE!
- Dancing is another form of exercise that burns calories, works out the whole body as well as the heart and lungs. Plus, it’s fun! I crank the tunes up loud, close my curtains, and just go with the flow! You can dance anywhere! I do it the living room and even the kitchen when I’m cooking or baking.
- Do you have access to a bicycle? Go for a ride! Its a great leg and butt workout.
- How about going for a swim? You can swim for an hour at a public facility for a reasonable price and it’s also great exercise for those with joint issues as well. If you live near a beach, or any body of water, all the better! You get to swim for free.
- I recently purchased a set of resistance bands for a decent price. They are great for toning without having to buy expensive gym equipment.
- Ditch the elevator and take the stairs instead!
- Utilize your free buildings around you. For example, park in the last row at the mall and walk the extra distance! Go to the mall on rainy days and just walk laps around the place. Every time you move your body, you are exercising.
- Even when you vacuum, and you move furniture, you are using your muscles and you probably don’t even realise you’re exercising.
- Yard sales! Yes, my beloved yard sales (I may be a tad obsessed) are a great place to score cheaper equipment. I’ve seen exercise equipment selling for next to nothing!
- Head to YouTube and check out some free exercise routines!

Oh, the possibilities are endless. You just need to use your imagination!
The key to exercising is consistency. Its something that you really should try to do at least 3 times a week. It will not only burn calories to help with weight loss, but it also helps improve your mood and gives you an energy boost. Although the scales haven’t moved for me in the last 3 weeks, I’m seeing some positive results since getting more active.

My clothes are looser, I’m not as out of breath anymore, and walking uphill is getting easier all the time. Plus, my legs feel stronger and the best part? "I" feel stronger both physically and mentally! All I had to do was start moving my body a little at a time. I have tons of energy now and because I feel great on the inside, it's starting to show on the outside!

I truly hope these exercise suggestions have been helpful. I’m going to try and do something every day now for 30 minutes. I owe my body that much. After all, what's 30 minutes when every day holds 24 hours? I can do this and so can you!
So, there you have it. Exercise in conjunction with a healthy diet improves both physical and mental health. That’s a fact.

Incorporating Nutracelle in my healthy eating routine has been a Godsend to me. Along with exercising, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. Hardly a week goes by that I don’t bake or cook with this amazing protein powder as well as making those delicious smoothies. It takes the ‘guesswork’ out of meal planning for me and that is a big bonus!

Today I made some gorgeous protein waffles with my 3-dollar-yard-sale waffle maker! I told you I was obsessed! Tonight’s meal consisted of a couple of waffles with some turkey bacon and an egg. I swear I could eat that every day from now on! I’ll include the recipe and a few photos again as usual.

Thanks for joining me once again, hope to see you all next week!
