Struggles & Speedbumps: Gillian's Journey

Struggles & Speedbumps

Well, this has been an interesting week. Amid my usual weekly cleaning chores, appointments, and shopping, I was also expecting company... twice.

If you know me, you'll know how much I love to cook and bake. When I'm expecting company I know they usually expect a little something sweet to go along with a nice cup of tea. It was hotter then a crematorium here last week and as I rushed from an appointment I dropped into the corner store and picked up some cookies for our afternoon tea visit. I NEVER buy store-bought cookies but I made an exception as time, and the hot weather, was against me. I bought one kind that I knew I wouldn't like. The other? Well... you can't dislike them all right?

To make a long story short, I came home and put those cookies away telling myself that when my friend comes to visit, I would relax and have a cookie with my tea (just this once). Unfortunately, she couldn't make it to my place, so there I was: feeling cheated of my excuse to have a cookie. I poured a cup of tea for myself anyway and I ate a peanut butter ball. Oh, how good that tasted! So good, in fact, that I decided to try a Partridge Berry square. ( I don't like Partridge Berries, orrrrr... I should say "DIDN'T" like them). Okay... so yeah, I sort of had a little back slide. Haven't we all at one time or another?

I took the rest of the cookies and buried them in my freezer for company I had coming for lunch on Saturday. Beside the cookies I had already purchased, I made more. I was in my element on Friday, baking 3 more kinds of cookies and tea buns. Being the nurturer that I am, I was making sure my company was going home with full bellies. All leftovers were going with them and I knew I would breathe a sigh of relief when all sweets were abolished from my kitchen. I cooked a roast for sandwiches and bought ham and cheese as well. In the midst of sandwich making, I got a text saying they couldn't make it that day. OMG... I had enough food to feed all 5 of my guests and then some! On top of all that, the universe was conspiring against me as I had run out of my Nutracelle Nutralean protein powder.

Uh-oh, how was I going to get through this? I wasn't expecting my order until Tuesday and it was only Saturday. The struggle became real. I knew I could not be alone with all those carbs and sweets. Luckily, the sandwiches were eaten for lunch AND supper by other family members who dropped in to visit. It was just too hot to cook, thank goodness. I ate with them and I did have a pick at the Rice Krispie squares.

There was a time when I would have been disgusted with myself for giving in...yesterday was no different. The difference being that instead of giving up like I would have done in the past, I pulled up my big girl panties and got right back on track. All leftovers were packed up and sent out to friends who love their homemade baked goods and I got rid of everything!
I'm still without my Nutralean but I do have protein meals frozen that can be easily defrosted and served with a side salad, so I KNOW I'm going to make it through till my order arrives.

What once would have meant total derailment for my healthy eating and diet goals turned into a mere "speed bump" I'm proud to say. Today I'm feeling great again, more motivated than ever and above all... I have forgiven myself my transgressions of yesterday.

NEVER give up on yourself. You, me, we are all "works in progress". We all need to keep that at the fore front of our thinking. NEVER, EVER, measure your own success with someone else's ruler either. We are all travelling the same road and we all travel at our own pace. The key is to be consistent in our efforts. Just a little advice from someone who's been fighting this battle for most of her life, but this time I'm going to WIN!

Thanks for joining me once again and I'll see you all again next week!!

This week I'm sharing a recipe that I absolutely love: Lobster and Crab Protein Cupcakes . This recipe is made in 2 steps.

First, the Hamburger Bun recipe.

You will also need the Lobster and Crab filling recipe.

These are the best and oh so filling. Made with Natural Nutralean for a low carb, high fiber and high protein meal. (I like a little heat so added 1/4 cup Sriracha sauce to my crab mixture) They are so worth the time believe me! (Check out this closeup... SO delicious)
