Our Favourite 6 Thanksgiving Recipes

We're so excited for Thanksgiving this year!

Canadian Thanksgiving is just around the corner (Monday, October 10th) so we thought we'd get a head start on our excitement. Don't worry, American friends, we'll be sure to re-blog all of this yumminess closer to your special day, too!

Why are we so excited you may wonder?

Aside from being incredibly thankful for all of you, our amazing product and our new flavors, it's because we know that we can make this typically carb-heavy, hearty meal healthy, full of the protein and prebiotic fiber we need, as well as absolutely delicious! Forget the food coma, when you Nutracelle-ify your meal, you get all the same happy tummy feels, without the sluggish trying-not-to-nap hour afterwards! Plus, you can ask for more dessert guilt-free!

We want you to know that you can turn any meal into a healthier meal, and with these tips you'll be drooling for turkey dinner all the time! Don't miss out because you think you have to - you don't! We have your back, always!

Turkey:

The best thing about cooking your turkey is that it's all protein! You don't have to worry about carbs unless you're using a sauce that's full of sugar.  Remember to always check your labels, folks! "Organic" or "Gluten-free" do not equal sugar-free.

Here's a quick recipe for a healthy homemade turkey rub:

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1/2 tablespoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
  • dash of cayenne
  • scoop of Natural Nutralean

Tips for the perfect juicy roast turkey:

  • Use a fresh turkey instead of frozen.
  • Rub herb'd butter under the skin.
  • Don’t overcook it - cook your turkey to 180 internal degrees, but you can take it out a few minutes before it reaches 180 (for birds 10 lbs or less).
  • Let the turkey rest before carving. (the bigger the turkey, the longer it should rest)

Stuffing:

We know what you're thinking: there's NO way you can make a yummy, low-carb stuffing.  Well, we're sorry to tell you this but... you're wrong! Every year Melanie's family enjoys this super yummy, insanely filling stuffing that tastes JUST like the real deal.

Nutracelle has so many bread recipes that would be perfect for your turkey stuffing. Depending on the size of the turkey, you can make enough stuffing as you think necessary! We have everything laid out for you in our Protein Stuffing recipe (Our Social Media Manager wants to try the Jalapeño Protein Bread - we definitely think she should and we expect her to bring some into the office for the rest of us...hint hint) Fill your turkey and you're set for the best stuffing around!

Would prefer to stuff your turkey with vegetables? Great idea! Dice up 2 onions, leaving them in relatively large chunks. Cut up a mix of red, yellow and orange peppers (also in large chunks) and add to onion in a large mixing bowl. Coat the veggies in our Natural Nutralean for extra protein and a whole lot of deliciousness! Throw in your favourite herbs and spices and stuff your turkey! It's delicious, we swear!

Potatoes:

Don't fret - this is going to be one of the best parts!! Our amazing Fauxtatos recipe is the perfect substitute for plain cooked potatoes. We don't allow for a boring meal, so be prepared for this awesome side dish to be one the whole family will love!

Dessert:

We haven't forgotten the best part (okay, second-best because we all know stuffing is the best) of Thanksgiving dinner... dessert!  We have a few delicious options for you, choose your favourite or why not make them all? Everyone loves options! Pssst.. don't worry, they still won't know it's healthy.

1. Protein Pumpkin Pie

This is one of our favourites. Traditional deliciousness that'll remind you of your grandmother's special homemade pies. Skip the sugar and carbs with this healthy dessert.

2. Pumpkin Cheesecake

Um, yes. You read that right. These pumpkin cheesecakes are so yummy, you'll want extras for later.  Sugar-free and packed with protein and fiber, this recipe is sure to become a regular in your house.

3. Apple Pie Shake

This is probably a strange one, but hear us out: one of the most popular dessert pies around Thanksgiving is the oh-so-yummy apple pie. If you're trying to skip the sugar that comes with traditional apple pie (and apples in general), this apple pie shake is the perfect substitute.  You'll get that same great flavour without sacrificing your health goals, and your gut flora!
